Britain fares badly in EU health survey

Britain is the most obese country in Europe, according to a study by the Association of Public Health Observatories.
The West Midlands and north-east are the most overweight regions in the European Union, with nearly a third of all adults classed as obese.
In addition, the UK also has one of the highest levels of teenage pregnancy with the north-east region having the most in the country.
Despite many other countries having more smokers than Britain, female cancer death rates were also among Europe's worst.
A spokesman for the Department of Health (DoH) said: "The government has made it clear that tackling health inequalities is a priority as part of its commitment to fairness and social justice.
"Everyone should have the same opportunity to lead a healthy life, no matter where they live or who they are.
According to the DoH, nearly one in four adults are obese, with the 2007 government-commissioned Foresight report predicting that if nothing was done, 60 per cent of men, 50 per cent of women and 25 per cent of children would be obese by 2050.
