One-to-one care cancer patients 'more satisfied'

One-to-one support for cancer care patients makes a significant difference to their satisfaction with their treatment, according to the National Cancer Patient Experience Survey.
Of the 67,713 patients interviewed, 84 per cent of those who had received one-to-one support had far higher rates of satisfaction that encompassed all aspects of their care.
The survey also found that 58 per cent said their family or friends were given the information they needed to help at home by medical professionals, with 50 per cent of those who deemed it necessary receiving information about financial assistance.
In addition, 68 per cent of patients said their appointments started within 30 minutes of the appointed time and 62 per cent said that enough nurses were on duty.
Care service minister Paul Burstow said: "The coalition government's aim is simple - to get cancer survival rates up there with the best in the world. To do this we need to make the best possible use of the resources available."
This comes after maps focusing on key conditions, intervention and outcomes, drawn up by the NHS Right Care, showed regional spending gaps in cancer care.
