A national screening process for prostate cancer will not be introduced due to reliability issues, according to reports.
The UK National Screening Committee has announced that problems with the blood test outweigh any potential benefits and subsequently, national screening will not be introduced.
It has been claimed that the blood test can lead to over-diagnosis as it struggles to separate prostate cancer from other conditions such as a urinary infection or benign enlargement of the prostate.
Screening committee director Dr Anne Mackie said: "I am confident that this is the right decision. This advice is based on the latest research evidence, and informed by a range of groups including healthcare professionals and patient representatives."
Meanwhile, experts from the Radiological Society of North America have warned that the benefits of radiography treatment must be weighed against the risks and advised that unnecessary procedures are cut.
