Operation department practitioners may see rise in Christmas surgery bookings

Operation department practitioners may see a surge in the number of patients opting for surgical procedures prior to Christmas.
The Harley Medical Group has reported a 35 per cent increase in bookings by patients in December, with some of the more popular procedures including breast enlargements, nose reshaping and liposuction.
This year-on-year increase around Christmas time is thought to be associated with the contributions made by families during the festive season for those keen to go under the knife for a cosmetic procedure.
The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) recently underlined the importance of allowing patients a cooling off period prior to booking procedures.
Research by the organisation indicated that a third of surgeries do not currently encourage a cooling off period, prompting calls for regulations to be introduced to promote consistent standards across different practices.
BAAPS president Nigel Mercer said: "Aesthetic surgery needs to be recognised as the multi-million pound specialty it is and not just a fragmented 'cottage industry'."
