Surgeons at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh have carried out 15 transplants in 15 days, new figures show.
The operations took place between October 28th and November 11th saw ten liver transplants, three kidney transplants and one combined pancreas and kidney transplant.
This comes during a campaign by NHS Lothian to encourage more people to donate their organs.
John Forsythe, consultant transplant surgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, and lead clinician for organ donation in Scotland, said that it was a record period for the hospital's transplant team.
"Thanks to the selfless generosity of organ donors, 14 individuals and all those connected to them, be it husbands, wives, sons, daughters, parents, colleagues, team-mates, will see at first hand the miracle of organ donation."
However, he then pointed out that there are around 650 Scots currently waiting for a transplant, with three dying unnecessarily every day as they wait for an organ to become available.
