An extra £4.4m for NHS social enterprises

Health secretary Andrew Lansley has announced that extra funding will be allocated to the NHS through the Right to Request social enterprises scheme.
The £4.4 million funding, distributed through the Social Enterprise Investment Fund, will be set aside for NHS projects wishing to become social enterprises.
This means that those in UK medical jobs with the NHS will be given the opportunity to become their own boss.
An estimated £900 million worth of NHS services and 25,000 staff doing hospital doctor jobs, audiology jobs and physiotherapy jobs among others, will be transferred to the social enterprise sector.
Mr Lansley said: "This is about a fundamental power shift, taking power from Whitehall and placing it in the hands of frontline staff who know best the needs of their communities."
"We want to empower millions of public sector workers to become their own boss and help them to deliver better services," he added.
