Register as an Dietitian

A rogue gene could be the cause of obesity in many people, according to new research which could help those in dietician jobs.
Forty-nine per cent of people who inherit the flawed FTO gene are 30 per cent more likely to be obese than those who inherit two normal versions of the gene.
According to researchers at Oxford University and the Medical Research Council, the flawed FTO gene boosts appetite, causing diets to fail.
Professor Frances Ashcroft of Oxford University's Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, and one of the leaders of the research explained how too much activity of the gene can lead to overeating and consequently, obesity.
"We can now think about developing drugs that turn down the activity of the FTO gene as potential anti-obesity pills. That's a long way off and there's no certainty of success, but it's an enticing prospect," she said.
Meanwhile, researchers at the University of North Carolina have found obese teenagers have a high risk of severe obesity in later life than those of a normal weight.
