Register as an Dietitian
Monday 8th November 2010
A study has found that multiple food diets can help to ward off severe diseases, which may encourage those in dietician jobs to advise patients to enjoy a varied diet.
Researchers at the Antidiabetic Food Centre at Lund University in Sweden found that serious diseases such as cardio problems, Alzheimer's and diabetes can be partially prevented by a diet of anti-oxidants, whole grains, fatty acids, vitamins and other essential nutrients.
Participants in the study followed a diet plan which helped to reduce low-grade inflammation, obesity and heart disease.
The healthy diet also improved memory and cognitive function in participants of the study.
It also reduced bad cholesterol by one-third, lipids by 14 per cent and blood pressure by eight per cent.
Meanwhile, the Institute of Food Research in Norwich and the Policlinico Universitario in Italy have found that the naturally-occurring chemicals in the nut's skin can boost the immune system's response to viral infections.
