Radiotherapy could help those in UK medical jobs save lives

Radiotherapy treatment cuts prostate cancer deaths, according to new research.
These findings could offer some hope to those in UK medical jobs such as hospital doctor jobs and those working as operation department practitioners, who often spend much of their time battling cancer.
Men treated with radiotherapy in addition to hormone therapy in instances of advanced prostate cancer were 43 per cent less likely to die from the disease, according to Cancer Research UK.
The study, funded by the Medical Research Council and National Cancer Institute of Canada, looked at a group of 1,200 men with locally advanced prostate cancer.
Every patient received the standard hormone therapy and half were given additional radiotherapy treatment throughout the study, which was presented at the NCRI Cancer Conference in Liverpool on Monday (November 8th).
Results show that 79 per cent of the men who solely received hormone therapy were still alive after seven years in comparison to 90 per cent of those who underwent the additional radiotherapy.
This comes after a cell was discovered by scientists at Cambridge University which prevents cancer vaccines being completely effective, meaning that the way those in UK medical jobs treat the disease could be revolutionised.
