Cardiac physiologists 'help bring death rates to record low'

Death rates in the UK are at their lowest level since records began and the fall has been attributed to the work of cardiac physiologists and others in UK cardiac jobs.
According to the Office of National Statistics, there were 491,348 deaths in Britain last year, representing a 3.5 per cent fall from 2008 – and the lowest level since 1952, when the UK population was fitter and slimmer after years of rationing.
Consultant cardiologist Dr Duncan Dymond, of Barts and the London Hospital, told the Daily Mail that Britain's cardiac physiologists had led a "giant leap for mankind".
"There are also new and better drugs to control blood pressure as well as wider use of aspirin and also new techniques used on heart attack patients," he added in his interview with the newspaper.
Earlier this month, research by scientists based at British Columbia Children's Hospital in Canada found signs of "stiffened" arteries in young adolescents, highlighting the need to target heart disease triggers early.
