£600m fund 'to help doctors prescribe cancer drugs'

Patients in England are set to benefit from a £600 million cancer fund, which is expected to help hospital doctors and those in pharmacy jobs provide wider access to groundbreaking treatments.
According to the BBC, health secretary Andrew Lansley has confirmed that, from next April, the first of three annual £200 million sums will be available, enabling NHS doctors to buy life-extending drugs for their patients.
"This £200m a year funding over three years for cancer drugs is a crucial step forward in addressing the disparity in patients' access to cancer drugs in England compared to other countries," he told the news provider.
The additional funding should reportedly make it easier for hospital doctors and those in pharmacy jobs offer treatments, even if they have not yet been approved by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence watchdog.
Earlier this month, a report supported by the Royal College of Physicians called for greater teaching of the management skills those in hospital doctor jobs will need to become future leaders in the NHS.
