More patients to benefit from flying hospital doctors

A specialist flying doctor service, which takes consultants to critically-ill patients in remote, rural locations in Scotland, has been extended across the countrys north and north east, those in hospital doctor jobs have been told.
The Aberdeen Press and Journal reported that the Emergency Medical Retrieval Service (EMRS) will allow more patients to benefit from fast access to treatment and improve the Scottish Ambulance Service's existing provisions.
Health secretary Nicola Sturgeon told the newspaper that it could "make the difference between life and death".
"That is why we have decided to establish Scotland's flying doctors as a national service, delivering first-class healthcare to all rural parts of the country," she added.
The service, which is expected to cost around £2 million annually, has been extended following the positive evaluation of a pilot scheme.
Last week, the government announced that spending on the NHS was to rise by £10 billion, to around £114 billion, which could see more hospital doctor jobs being created.
