Diabetes rise 'highlights dietician job importance'

The number of diabetes patients in the UK has risen by approximately five per cent over the past year, a leading healthy charity has said, illustrating the vital role of those finding a dietician job.
Diabetes UK has warned that failure to act upon the increasing number of people developing type-two diabetes, linked to poor diets and being overweight, could have serious implications for public health.
In the UK, there are thought to be 2.8 million people diagnosed with the condition – an increase of at least 150,000 during the past 12 months.
"We must keep up the mantra of 'five fruit and veg a day', encourage daily physical activity and warn of the potentially devastating consequences of an unhealthy lifestyle," said Simon O'Neill, speaking on behalf of the charity.
Earlier this month, Australian researchers from the University of New South Wales revealed that diabetic fathers who do not follow their dietician's healthy eating advice are more likely to pass the condition on to their daughters.
