Register as an Dietitian
Wednesday 20th October 2010
Cutting the amount of red meat which people eat to three times a week could help to prevent around 45,000 early deaths, as well as save the NHS £1.2 billion, those looking for a dietician job have been told.
A study by the University of Oxford showed that processed products, such as cheap burgers or sausages were bad for people's health because they contained high levels of salt and fat.
It also found that lower-meat diets could cut heart disease-related deaths by around 31,000, with fatalities from cancer and strokes lowered by 9,000 and 5,000 respectively.
Dr Mike Rayner, from the Department of Public Health at the university, said: "This research demonstrates the clear health benefits of cutting down on meat and dairy in the UK and quantifies this more comprehensively than ever before."
Those looking for a dietician job were recently told about Paul McCartney backing 'meat free Monday' in order to cut carbon emissions.
