Those seeking occupational therapy jobs have been told that exercise could be a key way to alleviate some of the symptoms of depression.
Catherine Tsiboukas, vice-chair of Journeys Towards Recovery, said that it is one tool of many which can be used to maintain positive mental health.
"Depression is a serious and potentially disabling condition that can be treated through a mix of medication, self-help and/or therapy. Exercise has been shown to help alleviate some of the symptoms if it is used as part of a broader management programme," she added.
Ms Tsiboukas went on to say that each person is different, which means that developing a mental health care plan is something which each person should do with the help of those working in occupational therapy jobs.
Her words came after Yale University revealed that its researchers have found a gene which seems to be a key contributor to the onset of depression.
