Robotic drug dispensaries have improved safety and saved money at a new hospital in Scotland, it has been reported, which may interest those seeking pharmacy jobs in the country.
According to the BBC, managers at the Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert believe the £400,000 automated pharmacy system to have already trimmed £700,000 from the hospital's medicine bill.
Lead pharmacist Jann Davidson told the news provider that the robotic dispensary had freed up time for those working in pharmacy jobs, allowing them more time to consult with patients.
"It's also reduced errors at the point of picking and dispensing and our staff are now able to work up beside the patients, checking their medicines as patients come into the hospital," she added.
Drugs delivered to the hospital are placed on a conveyor belt, before the machine reads their packaging and places them into an organised system for accurate picking at a later date.
