NHS could save money and protect doctor jobs, GP says

A leading York GP has said that money could be saved in the NHS while protecting healthcare and saving GP and hospital doctor jobs.
The chairman of the Local Medical Committee, Dr Brian McGregor, told the York Press one way that NHS North Yorkshire and York could reduce costs would be to utilise people working in occupational therapy jobs and physiotherapy jobs to provide alternative treatments to drugs.
The doctor also suggested that healthcare professionals should consider prescribing non-branded alternatives to some drug treatments, and reassess the length of all courses of medication.
Dr McGregor explained: "We may get somebody with back pain and we give them a month’s-worth of treatment when we actually only need to give them a week's. Also, there could be alternatives to prescriptions such as physiotherapy."
Earlier this week, GetReading.co.uk reported that plans for an additional £5 million investment in Berkshire's Prospect Park Hospital could potentially create new hospital doctor jobs in the region.
