Calls for high street vaccinations 'could create pharmacy jobs'

High street chemists in Wales could soon be offering patients NHS vaccines in an effort to improve take-up rates of important medicines, which could also see a number of new pharmacy jobs being created.
According to Wales Online, experts have suggested that the country's network of over 700 community pharmacies could boost the number of people receiving annual flu injections.
The report from Public Health Wales has added weight to arguments that people should have access to NHS-funded vaccines at their local pharmacy, rather than just their doctor's surgery.
"In addition to the pharmacist's role in providing public health advice and signposting patients to vaccination services, the administration of vaccinations at community pharmacies has the potential to further increase vaccine uptake," the organisation said.
Earlier this week, Teresa Middleton, a qualified pharmacist and head of medicines for NHS Gloucestershire, told The Citizens that the skills of people in pharmacy jobs are not always fully appreciated.
Ms Middleton urged people with minor ailments to consider visiting their local pharmacist for advice, before making an appointment with their GP.
