Refer an Hospital Doctor
Monday 27th September 2010
Plans to converge mental health services in Berkshire may reportedly lead to a £5 million investment at the region's Prospect Park Hospital, potentially creating new hospital doctor jobs in the process.
According to GetReading.co.uk, a consultation is under way as officials aim to determine the best method of providing cost-effective care in East Berkshire.
Under one proposal, all inpatient care could be given in Reading, with £5 million being spent to reconfigure the hospital, currently operating under capacity, to provide an additional 65 beds for patients from the east.
Philippa Slinger, chief executive of the Berkshire Health Foundation Trust, told the news provider that the convergence of services would help it achieve its aim to significantly reduce spending.
“We need to save £12 million over the next three years and so far we have made cuts to save £7.5 million but we need to bridge that gap," she explained.
Meanwhile, the availability of hospital doctor jobs may have been highlighted by last week's announcement that the emergency department of Queen Mary's Sidcup hospital would be temporarily closed due to staffing shortages.
