A leading expert has said that new research highlights the importance for women who wear high-heel shoes to receive medical guidance from a podiatry job holder to minimise potential damage.
This follows a Northumbria University study which found that females could be wasting their time trying to impress men with high heels, because they rarely even notice what is being worn on the feet.
Lorraine Jones, podiatrist from the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists, explained how high-heel shoes elevate the leg, pushing the pelvis forward and meaning that the back is held in an unnatural position.
"To minimise the damage of this, ensure you do regular calf stretches after wearing heels and try to alternate your heel height so you're not wearing sky scraper shoes all day every day," she advised.
Ms Jones went on to say that women experiencing problems as a result of discomfort caused by high heels should seek advice from a health professional in a podiatry job.
