Hundreds of people seeking biomedical science jobs could benefit from a new facility which is opening in Cambridge.
Witnessing the commencement of the first stage of construction of the Medical Research Council (MRC) Laboratory of Molecular Biology, health secretary Andrew Lansley claimed that the building will help boost research as well as jobs.
According to the Cambridge News, the lab is set to open in 2012, when it will house facilities for up to 400 scientists to contribute to the work already done on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC).
"I am thrilled to see the new MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology building emerge as a unique centre of innovation and a flagship for the newly-extended CBC," Mr Lansley said.
An increase in the number of biomedical science jobs in the north of England could also soon be seen as a result of the creation of a new research centre at the former Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.
