People with UK medical jobs should not be accessing social networking sites during working hours, it has been suggested.
The chief executive of St Helier Hospital has called for a crackdown on the use of sites such as Facebook by nurses at work, the Sutton Guardian reports.
Sam Jones has told the hospital's IT team to take further action to prevent the site being accessed following a complaint that nurses were ignoring patients because they were too busy updating their profiles.
This is despite the site being blocked from trust computers for at least two years, with a spokesman for Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust suggesting that staff may have managed to get round the ban.
Those searching for UK medical jobs may also be better off staying away from Facebook, as a survey has revealed that its use while studying can lower grades.
The Daily Mail reported that the research, carried out by the Centre for Learning Sciences and Technologies at the Open University of the Netherlands and Ohio State University, found that results could be 20 per cent lower.
