Hospital doctor jobs 'require too much paperwork'

Juniors in hospital doctor jobs around the UK are spending too long on paperwork, at the expense of their formal clinical training, new data has suggested.
Statistics from the Medical Programme Board and the British Medical Association (BMA) have shown that 14 per cent of a trainee's time was spent on administration, while 13 per cent was dedicated to practical experience.
Furthermore, some admitted they did not feel prepared to conduct certain assignments, while one in 20 said they felt they had been asked to take on tasks beyond their capabilities.
"It is galling to find doctors spending more time filling forms than learning the skills they need to be the consultants and GPs of tomorrow," said Dr Shree Datta, chairman of the BMA's junior doctor committee.
The same study also indicated that junior doctors are dropping out after two years of training, with high workloads linked to the issue, the BBC reported.
