More biomedical science jobs created in Manchester?

An increase in the number of biomedical science jobs in the north of England could soon be seen as a result of the creation of a new research centre at the former Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.
Regeneration partnership Corridor Manchester - involving a consortium of Manchester Science Parks and Bruntwood - hopes that the move will create 440 positions in the area and increase the city's income by £60 million.
The 10,000-sq m facility - due to be completed midway through 2012 - will see the old building refurbished and extended to offer business and networking spaces, as well as laboratories.
Chief executive of Corridor Manchester Jackie Potter remarked: "As well as delivering much needed space for growing companies in the biomedical sector, the building will be a key hub for healthcare-related research, education and research and development activity."
This comes after the organisation, alongside the University of Manchester, secured £500,000 in funding to address the issue of unemployment in the north-west.
