New report highlights need to recruit for biomedical science jobs

The need for biomedical science jobs recruits, among other professions, has been emphasised in a new report from Semta, the Sector Skills Council for science, engineering and manufacturing technologies.
According to the study, a number of changes in the science industry in the near future will result in greater requirement for highly-skilled employees, including the introduction of new services and products.
Therefore, a net requirement of 50,000 people will be needed between 2010 and 2016 to cover retirements and employment growth in the sector.
Chief executive of Semta Philip Whiteman noted that individuals seeking biomedical science jobs in the future will need to demonstrate "world-class skills that employers are crying out for".
And Dr Aileen Allsop of AstraZeneca added that in bioscience there is currently a "mismatch between the needs of employers and the skills available".
This builds on Semta's 2010 UK Skills Report indicating that around 30,000 recruits will be needed in the next six years in the science, technology, mathematics and engineering industries.
