Cardiac physiotherapists to recommend preparing for ski trips?

Cardiac physiotherapists may like to advise patients considering taking a ski trip abroad to ensure they prepare physically for their holiday, as research has revealed that half the people who suffered a heart attack on the slopes had not done the recommended exercise prior to the vacation.
Conducted by the Medical University of Innsbruck, the study found that cardiac deaths accounted for 40 per cent of all those occurring on the pistes of the Austrian Alps.
Of these, associate professor Dr Bernhard Metzler noted, the heart attack is the most prominent, with over half occurring in the first two days of the ski break and within two hours of skiing.
"[This] hints at a causal relationship between lack of preparation for the intense regime of physical exertion and exposure to high altitudes and low ambient temperatures," lead author Dr Gert Klug remarked.
Meanwhile, taking fish oil could help prevent death through heart failure, it was recently revealed, with professor Martin Cowie - who carried out the study - stating that up to 10,000 lives could be saved annually through this, the Daily Mail reported.
