Locum pharmacists 'to prescribe travel vaccines/flu jabs'

Scientists at Cambridge and Reading universities have now discovered how to turn vaccines into pills, drugs that could be administered over the counter by locum pharmacists instead of by a visit to the doctor.
The development could hit the market within the next two years after researchers discovered how to use powder to shield bugs in vaccines from digestive juices, the Daily Mail reports.
Dr Alexander Edwards, who was involved in the study, noted that this move will make administering treatment much easier and simpler, giving the recent swine flu epidemic as an example, where practitioners had to wait six months for doses of Tamiflu.
"There are lots of good reasons why this is a good technology. A pill takes away the fear of needles and the need to go to a doctor," he remarked.
This comes after the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh called for a standard prescription system to be enforced after it was found that six per cent of those in consultant jobs made a mistake when prescribing medication.
