Cardiac physiotherapists 'should prescribe fish oil'

Patients may benefit from being prescribed fish oil by cardiac physiotherapists, as research has revealed that omega-3 supplements prevented the deaths of nearly one in ten people with heart failure.
Carried out by professor Martin Cowie, the review - published in the European Journal of Cardiovascular Medicine - found that up to 10,000 lives each year could be saved through this practice, the Daily Mail reports.
And a fall of nine per cent in the mortality rate of people taking purified fish oil was seen, as was a drop of eight per cent in hospitalisations.
Now, professor Cowie expects that European Society of Cardiology guidelines will take these results into account and recommend use of such aids in the future.
Those more interested in preventative measures, however, may like to have one cup of coffee every day, as a survey from the University of Athens has indicated that this can improve artery elasticity, thus keeping heart disease at bay.
