People in dietician jobs may be interested in recent remarks by one industry expert, who has offered his thoughts on why certain eating regimes are unsuccessful.
According to a recent clinical trial by weight loss company Weight to Go, individuals seem to drop more pounds when they follow a flexible diet that allows them to continue consuming their favourite foods.
It found those on its Weekends Off Diet - which allows people to create their own calorie-restricted meals on their two days off work - over eight weeks lost an average of 16.5 pounds.
Commenting on the findings, Dr David Ashton, medical director of Weight to Go, said humans are "hard-wired" to seek out treats and favourite foods "because they are rich in energy".
He added this means "diets which banish such foods entirely are almost bound to fail, because they demand something which is actually unnatural".
