New arthritis discovery could aid treatment of Alzheimer's

A protein released into the body by arthritis could aid the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, US doctors have discovered.
Alzheimer's effects a person's memory and in a new trial which has been carried out on mice, some of the animals treated with a protein released by arthritis showed improvement in memory impairment after being given the substance.
In some of the mice, memory impairment was completely removed after the treatment.
The results of the new test were published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Research and commenting, experts in the UK said it is "an important first step".
The BBC noted that a synthetic version of the protein is already utilised in treatment for cancer.
According to the Alzheimer's Society, three quarters of a million people are currently living with dementia in the UK and by 2025, figure is expected to have risen to more than a million.
Around two thirds of people who have dementia in the UK are women, the group estimates.
