A new study published by the Archives of Dermatology has linked the intake of non-light beer to skin psoriasis.
The study was based on a population of 82,869 female nurses who participated in biennial questionnaires between 1991 and 2005.
In total, some 1,150 cases of incident psoriasis diagnosed by a physician were reported, with an associated link between the skin condition and intake of non-light beer. No other alcoholic beverages were linked to psoriasis in the same way, the researchers found.
The research could be of interest to those working in biomedical sciences jobs, as psoriasis is still not yet fully understood.
According to the British Association of Dermatology, no other relationships linking diet and psoriasis exist, although it emphasises that smoking and high alcohol intake can exacerbate existing cases of the condition.
It is estimated that two per cent of the UK population is affected by psoriasis, which equally affects women and men at any age.
