Milk 'could be fortified with vitamin D'

Those looking for a dietician job may be interested to note it has been suggested milk should be fortified with vitamin D in the hope of beating cancer in the British population.
Many Brits are currently suffering from a lack of the sunshine vitamin, with half of the population of England being low in vitamin D by the time winter ends each year.
However, government scientific advisors have now suggested adding the cancer-fighting vitamin to milk - a solution which is already in place in Canada - could help to boost levels.
Dr Ann Prentice, chairman of the scientific advisory committee on nutrition, told the Daily Mail: "It is widely recognised within Government circles that we have a problem now that needs to be addressed. Milk is one of the potential vehicles that could be used."
However, it isn’t just adults who could benefit from drinking milk fortified with vitamin D.
The current Advisory Panel on Food and Nutrition in Early Years recommends as well as providing children with the sunshine vitamin, drinking milk also gives youngsters energy, protein, calcium and vitamins A and B.
