New pharmacy qualifications accredited

Skills for Health has announced that a number of new pharmacy qualifications have been accredited onto the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
The new courses are designed for pharmacy assistants at level two and pharmacy technicians at level three.
In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, pharmacy assistants can take a Level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills (NVQ) (QCF) or a Level 2 Certificate in Pharmaceutical Science (QCF).
Meanwhile, in Scotland an SVQ in Pharmacy Services Level 2 is open to pharmacy assistants.
In terms of pharmacy technicians, two level three diplomas are available in either Pharmacy Service Skills or Pharmaceutical Science in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
People working in pharmacy jobs in Scotland can chose from an SVQ in Pharmacy Services Level 3 or a National Certificate Pharmacy Services.
All of the new qualifications will be taught from September this year. The Royal Pharmaceutical Society Great Britain (RPSGB) website has all the details about registration requirements.
Earlier this year, changes to the regulation of the pharmacy industry came into force which will make it compulsory for pharmacy technicians to register with the RPSGB by June 30th 2011.
