'More research needed' into prevention of prostate cancer

Biomedical scientists need to carry out further research to verify claims that aspirin can help protect against prostate cancer, it has been stated.
Dr Elizabeth Rapley, from the Institute of Cancer Research, explained that although there have been several studies which found that aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs could help protect men against developing prostate cancer, more work needs to be done as other research has provided conflicting results.
"Overall, the weight of evidence is suggestive but by no means conclusive that aspirin protects against prostate cancer," she stated.
Her comments could be of interest to people working in biomedical science jobs.
On August 5th, a report published in the American Journal of Epidemiology backed the case for aspirin helping to prevent prostate cancer.
Researchers noted that the risk of developing prostate cancer was 21 per cent lower among current users of aspirin, compared with those who do not take the drug.
Figures from Cancer Research UK show that approximately 36,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in the country each year.
