An increase in the level of funding for breast cancer research could help improve survival rates for the disease, it has been claimed.
Dr Mark Matfield, scientific coordinator at the Association for International Cancer Research, explained that improved research into all types of cancer can lead to the development of more effective treatments.
He cited breast cancer as one example where survival rates have improved due to studies that have been carried out and resulted in new therapies.
People seeking biomedical science jobs may find his comments encouraging, as a rise in the amount of funding for cancer research could lead to more biomedical scientist jobs.
Last month, Breakthrough Breast Cancer revealed that one of its research teams had found a "potential new way" to treat a common form of the illness after identifying "a gene's key role in causing the spread of HER2 [human epidermal growth factor receptor 2]".
