Dates of Ask Your Pharmacist Week announced

This year's Ask Your Pharmacist Week will take place between November 8th and 14th, the National Pharmacy Association (NPA) has revealed.

Each year the organisation uses the event to raise awareness of the services provided by those working in pharmacy jobs.

Community pharmacies in particular are the focus of the campaign and the theme for 2010 will be Pharmacy on the Frontline.

Stephen Fishwick, NPA head of external communications, explained that pharmacies are "at the heart" of communities and stressed their valuable role in the healthcare chain.

"Community pharmacy is home to a uniquely accessible workforce of healthcare professionals and pharmacies are often the first port of call when people feel unwell," he explained.

The NPA is asking people working in pharmacy jobs to submit stories about their work to help highlight the importance of the profession.

Last year's campaign centred around seven NHS services provided by pharmacies to the public. These included allergy screening, medicine use reviews and smoking cessation services.

It was the first year that the NPA had held an Ask Your Pharmacist Week, however, the Ask Your Pharmacist campaign has been up and running since 2007.
