High blood pressure 'can affect anyone'

High blood pressure is no longer just an older person's illness, one expert in the area has claimed.
Sue Massey, deputy executive director at the Blood Pressure Association, commented that research published by Lloyds Pharmacy at the end of July highlights the growing problem of high blood pressure among younger people.
The study showed that 35 per cent of 16 to 34-year-olds had a high blood pressure, with four per cent of those in this age group exhibiting signs of severe or very severe hypertension.
Ms Massey stated that this demonstrates that high blood pressure is no longer just a problem for the older generations, something which could concern those working in UK cardiac jobs.
"Younger people need to be aware of their blood pressure health too," she said, adding that the condition is a major cause of strokes and heart attacks.
"The healthier your blood pressure is when you are younger, the less risk you have of serious consequences later in life," Ms Massey advised.
