Dieticians 'should help educate children and parents about healthy eating'

Parents and children need to learn more about healthy eating and doctors and dieticians should play a part in this.
Dr Andrew Buist, deputy chairman of the British Medical Association's (BMA's) Scottish General Practitioners Committee, stressed the need for children to learn about nutrition from an early age.
"Educating children in schools about a healthy diet and ensuring they get adequate physical activity is essential," he stated.
Dr Buist added that it is also vital to equip parents with the knowledge to be able to "provide their children with a healthy lifestyle".
Earlier this month, Marks & Spencer revealed that it is launching a plus-size clothing range for children.
According to Dr Buist, the decision by the retailer "goes some way towards normalising [childhood obesity]".
Research released by the NHS earlier this year found that, in 2008, 16.8 per cent of boys aged two to 15 and 15.2 per cent of girls in the same age group were classed as obese in the UK.
