Heart attack patients may benefit from stem cell treatment

A new stem cell treatment has been developed by a bioscience company in South Wales that could be used to help those who have suffered heart attacks.
Wales Online revealed that Cell Therapy has produced a medicine to reduce the size of scarring induced by heart attacks.
It is hoped that the treatment could increase the life expectancy of the millions of people who suffer from heart attacks all over the world each year, which could be of interest to those working in UK cardiac jobs.
Speaking to the news provider, chief executive officer of the company Dr Ajan Reginald explained that the medication is currently completing laboratory experiments.
"The aim is to provide initial therapies to the leading specialists by the end of the year and launch in the UK late in 2011," he stated.
According to the source, because the treatment uses a patient's own cells it is viewed as a transplant and will not need to go through the same complex regulatory procedures as new medicines.
Statistics from the British Heart Foundation show that cardiovascular disease is the main cause of death in the UK, accounting for 38 per cent of all fatalities.
