Cancer awareness pack to be launched for pharmacists

A team of pharmacists in Essex has developed a training pack for those working in community pharmacy jobs to help raise awareness about different forms of cancer.
The Pharmaceutical Journal revealed that the project is preparing to move forward after a successful public health campaign run by various pharmacies in the Essex area earlier this year.
During the scheme, 78 pharmacies took the opportunity to promote information about the signs and symptoms of colorectal and skin cancer to improve early diagnosis rates.
Feedback from members of the public was described as "exceptionally positive" by the Essex Local Pharmaceutical Committee (LPC), which published a report on the campaign that was organised in collaboration with the Essex Cancer Network.
A survey by Essex LPC following the end of the initiative last month revealed that 93 per cent of those surveyed had "a greater awareness of the symptoms of cancer" following a conversation with their pharmacist.
It is hoped that training packs developed for pharmacists in Essex will be rolled out nationwide, the publication noted.
