A diet expert has noted that women need nutrition when they are expecting a baby.
According to Yvonne Bishop-Weston, a nutritionist at Foods for Life and spokesperson for First Response, it is not advisable for mothers-to-be to eat a lot of sweet food.
She stated that eating for two is a myth and consuming a lot of unhealthy things is bad.
The expert added: "Cravings are just crisis management - the body is releasing hormones in desperation to urge you to provide more raw materials to make a baby."
Pregnant women should eat nutrient-dense food rather than goods that are high in calories.
Females tend to put on between ten and 12.5 kilograms, with most of this being added after week 20, she claimed.
While everyone is different, the best measure of how well women are doing in terms of size is how they look, she noted.
Ms Bishop-Weston said a little bit of extra fat is good but it is omega lipids babies require, as opposed to lots of saturated fat.
Her comments followed the release of findings from the International Congress of Obesity in Stockholm, which discovered that the 'eating for two' approach to pregnancy can increase the risk of women becoming obese decades later.
