Speech and language therapy recommended as possible career option

One option for people leaving school this year with their A Levels may be a career in speech and language therapy.
This is according to Debbie Andalo, who noted in a Guardian article that there are opportunities for career advancements in the field.
She made her remarks in response to a call for advice concerning an 18-year-old who is expecting to pass three A Levels this summer and, in order to avoid student debt, his parents are pushing him towards a career in the NHS.
Ms Andalo noted that speech and language therapy enables those in the profession to have direct contact with patients.
Working as an assistant, he would earn in excess of £13,000 and his employers would be likely to fund him to complete a foundation degree as a step towards achieving professional registration, she added.
The writer pointed out that in order to be considered for such a position, experience of working with children would be advantageous, which is something the teenager should bear in mind when considering working over the summer holidays.
There is likely to be rising competition for NHS jobs as austerity measures being implemented by the government begin to take effect.
