Refer an Biomedical Scientist
Thursday 15th July 2010
A woman who has been travelling the country to compete in tennis competitions has managed to juggle her sporting exploits with achieving success in the field of biomedical science.
Claire Birnie graduated top of her class in the subject from Robert Gordon University, the Aberdeen Press and Journal reports.
She finished with a first in applied biomedical science.
Although she now intends to focus on tennis and is hoping for a place in Great Britain's university team for the World University Games in 2011, she is considering completing a masters in her area of medical expertise.
Commenting on her experiences, she said: "It has been hard to juggle, but I just kept my head down and got on with my studies."
However, the Scot, who may be hoping to follow in the footsteps of countryman Andy Murray - who made it into the semi-finals of this year's Wimbledon competition - said she was not able to spend as much time as some of her rivals working on her game.
