Dieticians 'may want to consider psychological aspects of eating'

People with dietician jobs may benefit from taking into account the mental aspects of food consumption.
According to psychologist David Moxon, such issues are an important factor in what individuals choose to eat.
He said: "Food is heavily influenced by psychological factors in lots of different ways; you can't tackle eating behaviour without looking at some of these deeper psychological issues."
The expert added that while diets can be effective, "real change" only comes from alterations in the way people manage food and the way they relate to it in their everyday lives.
Often, consumers engage in eating unhealthy things when they are in a period of transition from one activity to another, he suggested.
Mr Moxon's comments came after the release of research from Lighterlife that revealed the typical Briton spends nearly £1,000 a year on junk food, which equates to around £17 per week on items such as chocolate bars and crisps.
