Radiography service receives praise

A CT scanner at Watford General Hospital, which has recently been used on its 10,000th patient, has been praised by one of the doctors from the hospital.
Speaking to the Watford Observer, superintendent radiographer Nick Tessier claimed that the device, which was installed in March, is vital for producing detailed images of a wide range of health problems.
"It can be used to scan any area of the body, from the brain to the tip of the feet. It produces high resolution images using X-rays. It's brilliant for visualising strokes," the doctor said.
The machine is used up to 30 times a day and is crucial for enabling the hospital's accident and emergency service to run smoothly, often helping to diagnose patients within minutes of their arrival, he added.
Watford General Hospital is part of the West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, along with Hemel Hempstead and St Albans City hospital, which deals with 500,000 people in its catchment area.
