Calls made for more thorough speech and language screening

The demand for speech and language therapists may rise if calls made by charities are heeded.
According to the Children's Communication Coalition, all youngsters should be screened for problems with speech and language, Children & Young People Now reports.
In a new document produced by the group - which aims to bring together national organisations, experts and service users - it is suggested routine testing should take place.
The recommendations, which are entitled Engaging for Their Futures and Our Society, also said better screening should occur among children in the criminal justice system, where it is estimated that around six-in-ten youngsters have speech and language problems.
Expert Juliette Gregory, who works with young offenders, claimed early diagnosis and intervention for this group is crucial.
She added: "For many reasons, such as an often chaotic lifestyle, very few of the young offenders I have worked with have had any previous speech and language therapy involvement."
