Community pharmacies 'can help reduce health inequalities'

Health services can be accessed more fairly thanks to community pharmacies, an industry professional has claimed.
Stephen Fishwick of the National Pharmacy Association (NPA) made the statement at a conference of professionals from the health sector, including NHS managers.
He said that community pharmacies need more public investment, noting that this would help them to provide services more easily.
Mr Fishwick explained that at present, not all pharmaceutical services are universally available.
"The daily contact between the pharmacy team and a cross-section of society provides considerable scope for tackling health inequalities," he told the gathering.
Community pharmacies offer services such as testing people for their risk of heart disease and helping them to maintain a healthy weight.
The NPA is a community pharmacy trade association that was first set up in 1921.
It covers the whole of the UK and works to support its members, as well as offering them a voice and providing certain insurances and legal advice to help protect their interests.
