The high saturated fat contents of takeaway meals are contributing to an increased risk of heart problems among Brits.
According to Linda Main, dietetic advisor for HEART UK, making sure that such meals are only eaten on occasion and focusing on food made with low saturated fat cooking techniques will help keep cardiac disease at bay.
"HEART UK endorses the need to cut down on takeaway foods as many of these are high in saturated fats as well as trans fats," the expert said.
She added that although the food industry has worked hard to reduce the amount of saturated fats found in processed food products, more needs to be done to encourage people to consume less unhealthy meals.
The National Institute for Clinical Excellence also recently published information which suggested that some 40,000 lives each year could be saved by reducing the amount of salt and saturated fat in food.
