Podiatrist issues warning to pregnant women

A podiatrist has issued a warning to pregnant women in the UK concerning what footwear they decide to don.
Lorraine Jones from the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists noted that certain types of shoe do not provide any support for such people and can be bad for their health.
Her comments were made after research conducted by the organisation found that of 1,000 mums-to-be polled, seven in ten reported suffering problems with their feet yet nearly half felt under pressure to keep up with the latest celebrity trends.
Ms Jones remarked: "Muscles and ligaments soften and stretch because of an increase in the ovarian hormone relaxin, which makes your feet more prone to ankle and ligament strains on a daily basis."
For this reason, high heels should not be warn, she added.
However, shoes with a slight heel of around three centimetres can help pregnant women as they shift weight a little further forward and can thus alleviate some discomfort.
Recently, singer Lady Gaga was pictured wearing boots that had no visible support for her heels.
