Speech therapists among those who inspired a youngster

People with speech therapy jobs were among those who have helped inspire a youngster to consider a career in the medical profession.
Alix Kivlin was born weighing only 2.5lbs and was left fighting for her life, the Scotsman reports.
Now getting ready for her 18th birthday, she survived thanks to the care provided for her when in her early years.
Staff at the Simpson Maternity Pavilion, which is now part of the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, provided her with speech therapy and physiotherapy, among other things.
Her mother, Lynsay, said: "I can't put it into words what I think of the staff at the Simpson's, considering what could have been. She might never have walked, or talked."
Meanwhile, Alix added that the medical professionals are "absolutely amazing" and have made her want to give something back.
Currently working in a retail outlet, the teenager is considering re-entering education to train as a nurse.
